Never judge a book by its cover. A concrete exterior more familiar with the 1970’s is certainly not something to be put off by when visiting the InterContinental Hotel Prague. With lavish refurbishments of the lobby and rooftop restaurant completed in the last 18 months, it is clear to see that every effort has been made to ensure guests have truly special experience.
This luxury hotel originally opened in 1974. Situated right on the side of the beautiful Vltava river and ideally located for easy access around the city and the airport, it has a wealth of experience in inviting and delighting guests; all 372 rooms of them! Combine this with the extensive upgrade and refurb work completed over the years and you can see why this hotel is popular.
Just recently in March 2016 a full refurbishment of the hotel lobby created a truly magical space to check in and out, interact with staff, and relax. At the same time the hotel became the first showroom in the Czech Republic of luxury car manufacturer Rolls Royce; two of these stunning cars are viewable in the lobby. Getting an idea of the level of luxury here yet?
The rooftop restaurant Zlatá Praha has to be one of the most spectacular assets of the hotel. Refurbished in early 2017 it offers breath-taking views of the city from the 9th floor. From inside the building you can enjoy the cityscape via huge panoramic windows, and outside enjoy the scenes on the large rooftop terrace. From up here you can take in the true beauty of the city including the Old Town and the stunning Pražský hrad just across the river. Truly a special setting, this is the ideal place to enjoy a romantic meal with your partner, dinner with friends or colleagues or even celebrate a special occasion.
The food? We were delighted to dine à la carte here on our first evening and it was superb. The pan seared duck breast with crisped apples and cabbage and beet purée was a dish that excited the taste-buds and worked perfectly with the local Czech wine recommended by restaurant supervisor Pavel. Pavel and the staff were warm and welcoming as well as highly knowledgeable and skilled and complimented the exceptional restaurant experience. The reviews reflect this. Trip Advisor rates Zlata Praha in the top 3% of restaurants in the whole of Prague; do not miss the opportunity to eat here if you stay.
The hotel also boasts a spa and health club with space to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring the sights. With an area of more than a thousand square metres there is plenty of space to relax, and lots of things to do, such as: A swimming pool, sauna, salt water pool, gym and jacuzzi. There are also studios where you can book time in with skilled professionals who will help you unwind and recover with several different types of massage including hot stone, Thai and Aromatherapy variations.
There are also fantastic meeting rooms, conferencing and banqueting facilities available for business and events. During our visit we saw business and networking events underway in the hotel every time we walked past the facilities. The conference hall is actually huge and benefits from large windows filling the room with natural light; perfect for concentration in those long meetings!
Amazingly, the hotel has a total of three hundred and seventy-two rooms including thirty-two spacious suites. If you are feeling like an ultimate luxury stay Junior, Executive, Premiere and Presidential are all available. Every single room has the benefit of standard amenities such as mini bar, safe, bathroom and satellite television. There are fifty-two executive rooms available in the hotel and we were lucky enough to enough one of them.
Situated on the third floor this room at the corner of the building was spacious and comfortable with a king size bed to spread out in. Situated next to the bed was a “pillow menu”, with a full range of pillows to choose from to suit every type of sleeper; a great touch. There was working desk, walk in wardrobe and marble bathroom. We feel the room is created to satisfy almost every type of hotel visitor.
This hotel has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from an upscale, fivestar outfit. The combination of facilities and location really make it ideal for anyone looking to visit for a city break or business trip. We enjoyed our city break to Prague and will certainly be considering staying again the next time we visit Prague!
